While Truth is unchanging, the pathways and access points to the personal realization of Truth continually evolve as cultures change, and human capacities develop. It is partly for this reason that Sufism has relied on creative means for its transmission. The stories, poems, jokes, music and dances found in Sufi groups around the world balance doctrinal writing whose meanings are closely tied to the time and society in which they were written. Creative expression among Sufis is more about what is awakened in the viewer-listener-participant than an attempt to deliver an unchanging nugget of truth. The pieces on this page were created against this backdrop: more important than what the author is trying to say is what the “reader” finds. Hopefully among these pieces you will find an awakening of a deeper understanding within you. Yours not mine. ~ Puran
